Despite not being the first city that comes to mind for vintage shopping, Dublin boasts a vibrant vintage scene. Dublin’s vintage community has flourished in recent years, offering numerous places to find that perfect, one of a kind, pre-loved piece to add to your wardrobe. You could easily spend a whole day touring Dublin by hopping from thrift shop to thrift shop. In the age of online shopping, there is nothing like browsing through racks of unique clothes, each with its own story to tell. Thrift stores also offer the added bonus of sustainability. By purchasing a pre-owned clothing, you contribute to reducing waste and saving items from going to a landfill.

Below are my top favorite thrift stores that sell preloved and vintage clothing. If you’re a student, remember to bring your student ID, as many stores offer a student discount!

These terms are often used interchangeably as they all refer to stores that sell pre-loved and secondhand clothes, however, there is a distinct difference between the three terms. Vintage shops specialise in curated selections of clothing, accessories, and decor from previous eras, often focusing on high-quality, unique items that evoke nostalgia and style. Thrift shops, on the other hand, typically offer a diverse range of pre-owned goods at affordable prices that are sometimes stocked by donations from people in the community. While thrift shops may lack the curated feel of vintage stores, they provide opportunities for treasure hunting and unexpected finds. Charity shops, as the name suggests, operate to support charitable causes, accepting donations of gently used items and selling them to fund their organisations’ missions. Beyond offering affordable shopping options, charity shops serve as vital community resources, channeling proceeds toward social initiatives and humanitarian efforts. A few examples of charity shops in Ireland are Enable Ireland, Vision Ireland, Oxfam, and Irish Cancer Society. Each type of shop—whether it’s vintage, thrift, or charity—contributes to sustainable consumption practices while offering its own unique charm and purpose in the world of secondhand retail.

Designer Exchange Designer Exchange offers an exquisite selection of authenticated pre-loved luxury bags. Have you always dreamed of owning a designer bag but hesitated because of the steep prices? This is the perfect shop for you. With a vast array of designers and bag sizes, you can find the bag of your dreams at a fraction of the original cost.

Opening hours: Open every day from 12-6pm. Thursday they are open until 7pm and Sunday they close one hour early at 5pm.

Dublin Vintage Factory is a pay-by-weight shop where you’ll pay 30 euros per kilo. Specializing in vibrant 80s, 90s, and 00s fashion, the shop offers a fantastic selection of corsets, scarves, and faux fur and more. There is a small changing room on the top level where you can try on the clothes before you buy them. Whether you’re looking for a nostalgic piece or a unique addition to your wardrobe, this shop is a treasure trove for fashion enthusiasts.

Opening hours: Every day from 10-7pm

The exterior of Dublin Vintage Shop might not stand out, but inside you’ll find a vast assortment of items, including clothing. Whether you’re searching for unique jewelry, vintage radios, classic records, or a new addition to your wardrobe, this is the place to go. The space is packed to the brim, inviting you to spend hours sifting through its treasures. There are also two changing rooms in the back where you can try on your finds. This vintage shop also sells some of their clothes on Depop.

Golly Gosh, a new vintage shop located across from Big Smoke Vintage in Merchants Arch, offers a meticulously curated selection in a cozy space. The clothing features a mix of vintage pieces and handmade Irish designs. If you’re searching for a unique item that no one else will have, this is the place for you. This vintage shop also sells some of their clothes on Depop.  

Opening hours: Monday – Saturday 11-5pm, closed Sunday

Established in 1974, Jenny Vander is the oldest vintage shop in Ireland and one of the most unique in Dublin because they specialise in occasion wear. You can find dresses from any decade, ensuring you discover a timeless piece for any event. They also offer a wide assortment of hats, fascinators, and fine jewellery to complete your outfit. The shop’s curated collection reflects a dedication to preserving the elegance of bygone eras.

Opening hours: Only open Saturday 12-6pm and Sunday 2-6pm

Lucy’s Lounge is one of the most popular vintage shops in Dublin, having been a city icon for over 40 years. The pieces you will find here are wacky and wonderful. When you first walk in you’ll see a huge assortment of jewelry and other small accessories, both vintage and from local Irish brands. In the back of the shop there are stairs to the bottom level which is where all the clothes are located. Here, you’ll discover a fun mix of vintage and upcycled garments, each piece unique and distinctive. They also carry a few fancier clothing options great for any event.

Opening hours: Sunday 12-6pm, Tuesday-Wednesday 11-6pm, Thursday- Saturday 11-7pm. Closed Mondays.

There are two Nine Crows locations in town: Nine Crows Thrift Shop located north of the River Liffey on Mary’s Street and Nine Crows Vintage in Temple Bar. The Mary’s Street location, though smaller than the original Temple Bar spot, is packed with clothing and features small changing rooms. Here you can purchase colourful clothes without breaking the bank.

Opening hours: Sunday – Monday 12-6pm, Tuesday-Saturday 11-7pm

Nine Crows Vintage located in Temple Bar is definitely the more popular location of the two stores and it is also the larger location. This shop contains a dedicated men’s section, an expanded range of accessories, and three spacious changing rooms. Both Nine Crows stores specialise in colorful, vintage attire predominantly from the 90s and 00s. If you’re looking to add some bright color pieces to your wardrobe, look no further than Nine Crows.

Unlike the other stores on this list, Om Diva isn’t exclusively vintage. With a retro boho vibe, this boutique celebrates artists and artisans from across Ireland. While the bottom floor has vintage clothing, the remainder of the shop showcases unique pieces from various Irish designers. It’s the ideal destination to support local artists and discover truly distinctive items crafted in Ireland. The boutique offers a variety of accessories and even home decor. Whenever I need to find a gift for a friend, this is my first stop because there’s something for everyone in this store.

Siopaella holds the title of being the largest consignment store in Ireland, specialising in authentic high street and high-end products. From clothing to bags to shoes, you can discover a wide array of items from renowned designers such as Chanel, Gucci, and Dior. The name “Siopaella” derives from the Irish word “siopa,” meaning shop, combined with the founder’s first name “Ella.” Additionally, their products are available for purchase via their website, with shipping options available both within Ireland and worldwide.

Opening hours: Sunday 12-5pm, Monday – Thursday 12-6pm, Friday- Saturday 11-6pm

Situated at Merchants Arch in Temple Bar, The Big Smoke Vintage has a chill vibe to it. Their eclectic collection spans from the 1960s to the 2000s, featuring an extensive selection of jeans, leather jackets, belts, and scarves. Whether you’re hunting for a vintage gem or a contemporary accessory, this shop offers something for every style and era. They also have a small changing room where you can try on the clothes.

Tola Vintage is located right next to Lucy’s Lounge in Temple Bar. Tola Vintage boasts an expansive selection spanning two levels, brimming with clothing treasures. Specialising in 80s and 90s fashion, this store offers an extensive collection of staple items, ideal for curating a distinctive wardrobe. From iconic pieces to hidden gems, Tola Vintage is a must-visit destination for any vintage enthusiast. They sell a few of their items online as well.  

Just a few streets away from Tola Vintage lies its sister store, Tola Vintage Designer, operated by the same owners. Unlike the original store, Tola Vintage Designer exclusively offers pre-loved, vintage designer items. Elevate your wardrobe with coveted brands like Burberry, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. You can shop a few of their items online as well.

Opening hours: Monday- Saturday 9:30pm-6pm, Sunday 12-5pm

Formerly known as NCBI (The National Council for the Blind Ireland), Vision Ireland stands apart from other stores on this list as it operates as a charity shop. This means that your purchases here contribute to supporting a nonprofit organization. Vision Ireland is a nonprofit dedicated to providing support and services to individuals who are blind and vision impaired. Vision Ireland operates multiple locations across the country, however, my two favorite spots are the locations on Capel Street and Lower Camden Street because they have dedicated vintage sections.

Opening hours: Open all week 11-7pm

35 Vintage is relatively new, having opened its doors in 2023. They have an impressive online store, offering exclusive weekly online drops. The clothing selection is more streetwear aesthetic, featuring an array of sportswear, jerseys, track jackets, and university gear. Additionally, the shop boasts a spacious men’s section, catering to diverse tastes and preferences.

In Temple Bar, located on Fownes Street Upper, there’s a charming section hosting five small vintage shops. Each shop boasts its own unique vibe, making them all worth exploring. Housed in one building, you’ll find Tiger Vintage Clothing, Flip Clothing, and Sacred Heart Vintage, while next door stands Sharp’s Ville and then Badlands Vintage. While the shops offer a variety of styles, you’ll discover an abundance of vintage leather and faux fur coats and jackets, alongside a delightful selection of vintage graphic tees. Whether you’re hunting for a statement piece or simply enjoying a leisurely browse, this vintage haven promises a memorable shopping experience for all.
