When most people imagine Christmas in Europe, their minds go straight to those classic Bavarian-style markets; several brightly lit stalls, cozy crowds, handmade crafts, and mulled wine steaming in every other hand. While Dublin has its own festive charm, you won’t find bustling markets like that here. In fact, Dublin has very few Christmas markets and they tend to be on the smaller side. 

A few years ago, though, I stumbled across a gem that completely changed my holiday shopping. It’s not your typical Christmas market, but more of a massive craft and design fair. And let me tell you, it’s hands down the best Christmas market in Ireland and one of the biggest in Europe. It’s not exactly brimming with Christmas decorations like the Dublin Castle Market, but if you love unique finds and supporting small businesses, you’ll be in heaven here. 

The Christmas market boasts over 400 exhibitors and there’s something for everyone. I’ve been going for the last three years and I never leave empty-handed. It’s my go-to spot for unique gifts for family and friends, and I just love the chance to see all the Irish-made products and meet the talented makers behind them.

The market only runs for one week, usually in the first week of December, and it’s a ticketed event, so don’t miss it! This year, it’s open from December 4th to the 8th—mark your calendars and get ready to dive into Dublin’s most festive small-business wonderland.

The Christmas Market is located in the Main Hall at the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) in South Dublin, not far from Herbert Park and the Aviva Stadium. The RDS grounds are a bit sprawling, with several buildings, so it can get a little tricky to navigate. To make things easier, just type “RDS Hall 1 (Main Hall)” into Google Maps and you will find the building where the market is located. You enter the market from the entrance facing Merrion Road.

The christmas market typically runs the first week of December. For the 2025 season, the confirmed dates are Wednesday, December 3rd to Sunday, December 7th.

You’ll need a ticket to attend the market, and you can grab one online ahead of time or pick one up at the box office when you arrive. Tickets are €12 for adults and kids under 16 get in free as long as they’re with an adult. I’d plan to spend a few hours exploring, but if you’re having too much fun to fit it all in, just swing by the Organisers Office near the entrance. They’ll stamp your ticket so you can pop back in later for more holiday browsing!

The market is open every day from 10am to 9pm, except for Saturday and Sunday when the market closes at 6pm.

Parking in front of the Main Hall entrance is pretty limited and tends to fill up quickly, especially on evenings and weekends. If you are driving, I would recommend heading to the Simmonscourt Arena Car Park. It is just a quick 10-minute walk to the Main Hall. And if you’d rather not walk, good news! There’s a free shuttle bus running between Simmonscourt and the Main Hall during market opening hours.

If you’re taking the bus, the RDS Ballsbridge stop is the closest, conveniently right in front of the Main Hall entrance. Since Merrion Road is one of Dublin’s main routes, several buses pass through here and it’s only about a 15-minute ride from downtown Dublin.

Gifted Christmas Market is Ireland’s biggest craft and design fair, showcasing over 400 talented designers, makers, and artisan food producers. If you’re on the hunt for unique gifts and want to support local Irish businesses, this is the place to be! You’ll find an amazing variety of items, and you can even browse the full list of exhibitors. Plus, there’s a 10% discount on all purchases made on opening day, Wednesday, December 3rd, so if you can, go early to snag those deals!

As you step into the RDS Main Hall, you’ll find yourself surrounded by several rows of booths.  This is the main area of the market. In the centre, there is an exhibitor display and sometimes even hands-on workshops. Last year, they offered free workshops during the week, which was fun. While there’s no word yet if workshops are happening again this year, keep an eye out when you visit.

At the very back of the hall, you’ll find the Christmas Food Emporium where you’ll find the artisan food stalls and lots of free samples. This is definitely my favorite part. Lastly, there are a few additional booths on the mezzanine level, so don’t miss those!

And if you’re in the mood for a real bite to eat, there’s a small room to the right of the Main Hall with small bites and tables where you can relax and enjoy your food. Last year, there was a small coffee stand up on the Mezzanine level, so if you’re in need of a caffeine boost, be sure to head up there!

Look out for two signs on the booths: “Handmade in Ireland,” which highlights items exclusively crafted locally, and “Ask Me My Sustainable Story,” which signals businesses with sustainable practices. These details really add to the charm of the market and give you the sense that you’re supporting something special.

While it’s a shame that Dublin doesn’t have those big, classic Bavarian-style Christmas markets, the Gifted Market more than makes up for it. I’ve never been to a market with so many incredible local businesses, and the variety and quality of the products keep me coming back year after year.

It’s the perfect place to knock out all your Christmas shopping in one go. You will find something for everyone on your list. I also love visiting the market with friends, and since it’s indoors, it’s a cozy escape no matter what the weather’s like outside. If you’re in Dublin during the first week of December, this is one Christmas market you won’t want to miss!
